Broom Style Bonsais

Pierneef style broom (open umbrella) bonsais are unique to South Africa. The style is inspired by trees in Africa, whose foliage is stripped till high up the trunk by animals such as giraffes.

Broom is considered to be one of most difficult styles to shape. Pierneef is probably easier. Tried shaping few plants below. Still needs lot of work.

Plant was shaped in weeping style, but lost the shape after a close pruning. Needs to be reshaped, or may be change the style itself.

Group of 21 plants on a granite slab of size 2.5 ft by 1.5 ft. Height of plants above soil 28″. Approx. 13 years old.

Group of 7 plants on a Kadappa stone slab of size 4 ft by 2 ft. Trunk diameters of the plants between 4” and 5”. Height of plants above soil 34″. Approx. 13 years old.
