Leaves are used for treating sores, wounds, boils and swellings, and in childbirth and for postpartum discharges. Also used for treating fever, cough, sore throat, tuberculosis, skin conditions, eye injury and infection, stomach pain, bone fracture, gonorrhea, hypertension, ear infection, diarrhea, dysentery and typhoid.

Oil extracted from the plant is a remedy for hair fall, scalp problems, premature greying of hair, dandruff and skin-related ailments, such as scaling, psoriasis and herpes. Useful for treating muscle pain, joint pains, back pain, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Also used for treating piles, kidney stones, bile production problems, and as an aphrodisiac.
